Visitors Welcome

Up one level

Visitors are always welcome at Rostrum

You can visit as many times as you like before you join.

Of course, you can join right-away. However, you will not be asked to speak unless you would like to speak.

Rostrum groups are organised into Clubs that meet in many parts of the city and also in country locations. They meet at breakfast, lunch and evenings.

The Rostrum meeting is often only 1 hour in length and conducted like a business meeting - directed by a chairman.  There are many opportunities for impromptu speaking - like pertinent questions on topical issues with chances to answer those questions. Most meetings have an agenda with a prepared Topic of the Day where a number of speakers get the chance to prepare their speech well in advance, while others can deliver impromptu responses.  The essence of the Club is to allow many chances for participation where the speaking can be either fun or serious, but always educational.

At the end of the Rostrum meeting a tutor, we call the Critic, sums up the proceedings by offering advice about how individual performances can be improved. Rostrum is primarily a learning organisation and along the way we all develop greater confidence.

New Rostrum members can participate in the Personal Development Program (PDP) - a structured way to start your public speaking career.

Rostrum began in England and Australia in the 1920's and 30's and has helped many people over those years Here's a short history of Rostrum.
