The Personal Development Program

Recognition for your achievements.

Up one level

The program helps the new member develop self confidence in an environment of encouragement and constructive criticism and is detailed in a booklet available to each new member of Rostrum. The program consists of twelve activities starting with a personal introduction and concluding with a prepared six-minute speech with persuasive content. All club members are encouraged to participate in the program and support the new member.

The club will appoint a Mentor to the new member, who will provide personal assistance to the speaker and sign the tear-out vouchers at the back of the program booklet, one for each exercise. When the program is completed - and there is no rush - the Club President will formally present a Certificate of Completion to the successful participant.

To The Club Critic:

Many people join Rostrum to build their confidence and skills. This program provides a formal and consistent teaching vehicle that has been adopted nationally. The critic should look at the needs of each new member and encourage them to participate in the program. It can form the basis of a strong and varied program for your club and ensure its continuing growth and success. Remember, participants cannot fail this program; encourage them to try an exercise again if you feel a satisfactory standard has not been reached.

Mentor

As an adjunct to the Personal Development Program and to help the progress of the new member in Rostrum life, the Club Executive, in conjunction with the new member appoints a Mentor as a guide and friend. The Mentor should be a more experienced member, who will make himself or herself available to advise and help the new member during the member’s first Rostrum year. Not all new members desire the help of a Mentor, and the President should ascertain beforehand the wishes of the new member before appointing someone to that position.
