Adjudication Criteria
IMPACT ON THE INTELLECT:- Judging the ability to achieve a perceived purpose with logical sequential theme development. Considering:
- Material;
- Arrangement;
- Cohesion; and
- Language and appealing use of material.
- IMPACT ON THE EMOTIONS:- Judging the ability of the speaker to present the material so as to affect the audience. Considering:
- Visual impact;
- Vocal impact;
- Empathy;
- Mood and Appeal.
Even though the adjudication criteria are the same for both short notice and prepared speeches the maximum score possible for the two sections is different, viz.
Short Notice Prepared
Intellect 35 50
Emotion 35 50
Total 70 points 100 points
Maximum possible is 170 points for both speeches.
NOTE TO ADJUDICATORS:
Adjudicators are requested to adhere strictly to the criteria and use Rostrum’s standard score sheets.
In the final analysis no two competitors are to be given the same placings. If any adjudicator finds that two or more competitors are equal, then the adjudicator must re-assess the markings to differentiate those competitors.
