Why an On-line Club?

Several years ago we set up our first Rostrum online club.  Following its great success we’re now opening a second club, under the auspices of  Queensland Rostrum.   We at Rostrum have considerable accumulated experience in getting the message across effectively in the traditional speaking and meeting space. This was an opportunity for Rostrum to adapt our organisation’s meeting and speaking skills to make a similar contribution online.

What can I expect at a meeting?

Our on-line meetings follow a pretty standard Rostrum meeting format, with some adjustments for the technology. A typical on-line meeting has the following components:

Tech-Check

The meeting coordinator normally starts the on-line meeting before the designated time. We do this so participants can join the meeting and check that everything is working (video, sound, screen-sharing if doing a presentation) before the meeting gets under way…… More

Meeting Opening and Welcome
………and a quick introduction for new members.

Speaking exercises

A range of different exercises, including table topics (impromptu speeches), prepared speeches and presentations.

Evaluation

An accredited Rostrum coach provides positive encouragement, constructive criticism and ideas for improvement to help you develop and expand your skills as a speaker.

What do I need to join?

We use Zoom to host meetings. Zoom works on computers (Windows, Mac & Linux) and mobile devices.
The app is free to download and is generally considered superior to joining via a browser.

From time to time we may try other services, however all the main videoconferencing services work across a range of devices.
