As we are all aware, it is an ongoing priority to ensure the growth of Rostrum’s membership, in terms of the attraction and retention of members.

A recent initiative involving the engagement of two student project teams based at the Australian National University (ANU), in partnership with the Practera organisation, has resulted in the release of two Final Reports. The relationship with Practera was sponsored by a past member of Rostrum Victoria who saw an opportunity for Rostrum to engage with postgraduate volunteers in projects to assist with our strategic directions.

These reports focus on:

- growing Rostrum’s profile through high level strategic engagements across the community, and
- examining potential marketing approaches designed to maximise Rostrum’s outreach

The first of these projects has a national focus, the second is focussed on the South Australian zone. Within a very tight timeframe (three weeks) the two project teams completed detailed and valuable research that Rostrum (at the national, zone and club levels) can consider in the context of its marketing, promotion, and profile, across various sectors (business, community, government etc).

The project team’s Final Reports were presented via zoom to Rostrum members and incorporated significant feedback and discussion that occurred during the three-week lifespan of the projects.

The national strategic engagement project suggests engagement by senior Rostrum people with senior representatives from peak bodies across the community. Such engagement raises Rostrum’s profile and begins the process of marketing Rostrum and its outstanding and diverse benefits, not only to those peak body representatives, but to the many, many organisations, networks, and people that these peak bodies represent.

The South Australian based project was specifically about identifying potential marketing strategies that would enhance Rostrum’s profile and competitiveness within the public speaking ‘market’. It is currently being considered by the RostrumSA Executive in terms of potential future action.
